How PDF to Word Conversion Works

Our converter uses the powerful pdf.js library to parse your document right inside your browser. Here is the step-by-step process:

  1. Parsing: The tool reads the PDF's internal structure and extracts text segments along with their positions and font sizes.
  2. Analysis: We analyze the font sizes to determine headers vs. body text and use coordinate data to preserve the reading order.
  3. Mapping: Each text block is mapped to a Paragraph or TextRun in the OpenXML (DOCX) format.
  4. Packaging: Finally, the docx library packages these elements into a single file ready for download.

Important Limitations to Note

  • No OCR Support: If your PDF is just a series of images (like a scanned photo), this tool will not detect any text.
  • Tables & Images: Complex tables may be converted into a series of text lines rather than a structured Word table.
  • Font Matching: We use standard fonts. If your PDF uses very rare embedded fonts, they will be replaced with standard alternatives in the Word file.

Future OCR Integration

We are exploring the integration of Tesseract.js to enable client-side OCR for scanned documents in future updates. This would allow the tool to "read" text from images without sacrificing your privacy by sending files to a server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this PDF to Word converter free?

Yes, our converter is 100% free to use. You can convert text-based PDFs to Word documents without any subscription or hidden fees.

Does this tool support scanned PDFs?

Currently, we only support digital or text-based PDFs. Scanned documents (image-based PDFs) require OCR (Optical Character Recognition), which is a feature we plan to add in the future.

How secure is my data?

Extremely secure. All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your files are never uploaded to our servers, ensuring total privacy.

Will the Word document look exactly like the PDF?

Our tool preserves text order, paragraphs, and basic formatting. However, complex layouts, tables, and nested images may require manual adjustment after conversion.

What is the maximum file size limit?

Since the conversion happens on your device, the limit depends on your browser's memory. We recommend files under 50MB for the smoothest experience.
